Google Home Integrates AI Agents via Model Context Protocol

Google is opening its Google Home smart home ecosystem to various artificial intelligence agents, enabling them to interact with connected devices and access home data. According to TechCrunch, Google is launching early access to a new Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Google Home. The Verge also reported on this development, stating that Google is inviting third-party agents into Google Home and that Google Home MCP is a new integration. This protocol allows AI agents to securely work with devices and event history within the Google Home ecosystem, as detailed by The Verge.

Through this integration, AI agents can control connected devices and access smart home activity using natural language, TechCrunch reported. The Verge further explained that tools like Claude and Open Claw can access and control connected devices and analyze home data using the standardized Model Context Protocol. TechCrunch specified Claude and ChatGPT as examples of supported AI agents. The Verge noted that the integration supports AI agents such as Google Antigravity, Claude, Hermes, and Open Claw. TechCrunch also indicated that these agents would be able to review camera summaries.
