Google Gemini AI to Handle Business Calls for US Pixel 11 Users

Google is launching an early experiment that will enable its Gemini artificial intelligence to make phone calls on behalf of users. This feature, described by The Verge, allows individuals to delegate local business calls to Gemini for various purposes, including making reservations, checking product stock, or rescheduling appointments.

TechCrunch reports that the AI-calling functionality will first be rolled out to Pixel 11 owners within the U.S., specifically those who also subscribe to Gemini. The Verge further clarifies that users will not need to initiate the call themselves; rather, they can simply tell Gemini to place the call via the Gemini app on their Pixel device. This streamlines the process by removing the need for manual dialing.

Once a call is initiated, Gemini is designed to manage the entire interaction, according to The Verge. Its capabilities extend to calling the business, introducing itself appropriately, navigating complex automated phone menus, waiting on hold, and conducting the conversation with the person on the other end. Crucially, The Verge emphasizes that users will retain continuous oversight of the interaction through a live transcript view, ensuring they remain in control throughout the delegated call.
