Rabbit Launches OS3 AI Agent, Shifting Strategy from Dedicated Hardware

Rabbit, the company known for its R1 device, is rolling out a standalone AI agent named OS3, a development initially reported by Wired News. This cross-platform agent represents a change in Rabbit's strategy, moving from dedicated AI hardware to an approach that leverages existing devices. Wired News notes this comes two years after Rabbit's attempt to sidestep mobile applications with its specialized AI hardware.

According to The Verge, OS3 is described by Rabbit as an agentic operating system that operates in the cloud but functions locally across Windows, Mac, and Linux devices. This design allows users to add up to five devices to a single account and incorporate their preferred AI models. Rabbit asserts that OS3 is capable of automatically determining the appropriate devices, files, applications, and AI models needed to successfully complete a given task. The Verge further details that OS3 can be accessed through a dedicated desktop site, via paired messaging applications such as Telegram or iMessage, and on Rabbit's own R1 device. The R1 device itself was characterized by The Verge as underwhelming, providing context for Rabbit's evolution towards a more software-centric offering.
