Kamala Harris Signals 2028 Presidential Bid, Leaves Decision Open to Public

Kamala Harris has provided the clearest indication yet that she is considering a bid for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination.

At a National Action Network convention on Friday, Harris told the Rev. Al Sharpton that she is thinking about running in 2028 and will keep attendees posted on her decision.

The former vice president's comments took on a new significance in front of an audience comprising Black lawmakers, influential power brokers, and voters, whom she acknowledged would play a crucial role in determining the Democratic primary's next presidential nominee.

Receiving the most enthusiastic response from the audience, Harris repeated her criticisms of President Donald Trump's administration on a range of topics including foreign policy and voting rights.

Notably, she acknowledged that Democrats should not take the support of minority voters for granted and suggested being transactional voters by voting for politicians who meet their expectations.

Harris's remarks ahead of the packed convention hall mark one of several high-profile public appearances as part of her efforts to reintroduce herself to voters.

She is set to travel to several key states, including South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Arkansas, where her name recognition, bolstered by her two previous runs for the White House and her four-year tenure as vice president, could give her an early advantage in the potential 2028 Democratic presidential field.

The National Action Network convention is widely regarded as the first major event for potential 2028 Democratic presidential contenders, which underscores the significance of Harris's comments.
